How does buying tickets online work?
You can purchase tickets online using a personal
MyIFFR account. The latter is easy to create. You then select the films you wish to see from the schedule and pay for them using iDEAL [Dutch bank account holders only] or credit card. You will subsequently receive a confirmation accompanied by an e-ticket. You can already register for a
MyIFFR account today.
What is an e-ticket and how does it work?
After purchasing from the IFFR website you will receive an e-mail with a PDF as an attachment for every individual screening: the e-ticket. The e-ticket provides admission to the film screening. Print out the e-ticket and bring the e-ticket printout with you to the cinema. The barcode on the e-ticket printout will be scanned at the door. The unique barcode can only be used once. It is therefore pointless to duplicate e-tickets. The e-ticket is only valid if you print it out on an A4 sheet of paper. Ensure the barcode can be scanned: be careful when folding your e-ticket and do not get it dirty or wet.
To open the e-ticket PDF attached to the e-mail you will receive from the IFFR, you will require the free
Adobe Reader software. Download Adobe Reader from Adobe’s website.
Please note: the e-mail sent to you confirming your purchase is not an e-ticket. A printout of just the confirmation of purchase does not provide access to the film screening.
For further questions concerning e-tickets please refer to the
FAQ on e-tickets .
How much does a ticket cost?
In 2012, the price of an ordinary ticket will amount to €11 the price for those entitled to a discount (CJP pass[Dutch youth culture pass]/Student Pass/Tiger Friends) will amount to €8.50. Films with a Big Talk cost €13. Outside the standard film programme there are all manner of separate events, packages, performances and screenings. A variety of ticket prices are used for these. In contrast to 2011, no online transaction costs will be charged nor will there be a surcharge for purchases from the box office. For an overview of the ticket prices for IFFR 2012 please visit the
Ticket info page.
Until what time can I purchase tickets for a film screening?
You can purchase tickets online or from the box office up until a maximum of one hour before the start of a screening. All left over tickets for standard screenings can be purchased at a 50% discount from the Last Minute Shop at ‘de Doelen’ during the hour before the screening.
Where can I find the Last Minute Shop?
New in 2012 is the Last Minute Shop. There you can purchase tickets at a 50% discount for all screenings that have not sold out an hour before the screening is due to start. Tickets will be for sale at ‘de Doelen’ (ground floor) and probably also at another location. The latter will be announced at a later date as will the opening hours for both locations.
Can I purchase tickets from the box office?
The IFFR’s Central Box Office is located in ‘de Doelen’. The Central Box Office will open for business at 09:00 on Wednesday 25 January 2012. The opening hours during the festival will be announced at a later date. You can also purchase tickets for screenings at the box offices of the cinemas in question.
If I come down ill or am otherwise unable to attend a screening, can I give my tickets away to others or return them?
The IFFR does not provide refunds. However, this year, you can exchange your ticket at the Central Box Office in ‘de Doelen’ for (a) ticket(s) for another screening or screening date if you pay a €2 surcharge per ticket. Discounted tickets (Tiger Friends, Students, CJP) are personal and can therefore not be given away to others. If you purchased your tickets for the normal price, these are not personal and can therefore be given away to others.
Why have ticket prices changed in comparison to 2011?
The IFFR wishes to continue to be a place for courageous, idiosyncratic filmmakers and an interested, adventurous audience to meet. Furthermore, the organisation wishes to make things as simple and pleasant as possible for its audience. This is why it has explored modifications to the ordering method, pricing structure and discounts.
In 2012, the price of a standard film ticket will be €11 and the price of a discounted ticket will be €8.50 (CJP-pas/student/Tiger Friends). Films with a Big Talk cost €13. In contrast to 2011 no online transaction costs will be charged nor will there be a surcharge for buying tickets from the box office.
What is Big Talk and why is a film with Big Talk more expensive?
Films with a Big Talk cost €13 instead of the standard ticket price of €11. During a Big Talk a famous journalist, publicist or opinion maker interviews the filmmaker preceding the film. A film with a Big Talk is therefore €2 more expensive than an ordinary film screening. The Big Talks always take place at the Oude Luxor Theater and these will be listed as such in the programming schedule which will be available from 19 January 2012 onwards.
