IFFR positive advice, yet cut backs

Despite a positive evaluation, the Rotterdamse Raad voor Kunst en Cultuur (RRKC, Rotterdam Advisory Council for Art and Culture) advises to reduce by 20% the subsidy for the IFFR by the city of Rotterdam over the period 2013-2016 ‘in view of the reduced budget of the culture plan.’

Short films awarded

On Monday evening Makino Takashi’s Generator, Mati Diop’s Big in Vietnam and Jeroen Eijsinga’s Springtime were awarded the three equal Tiger Awards for Short Films 2012. The jury gave a Special Jury Mention to Charlotte Lim Lay Kuen for her short film I'm Lisa.

Taking its name from a 1968 seven-hour-long compilation of movie clips, commercials, and film trailers assembled by Joe Dante, Movie Orgy is a monthly carte blanche screening series at WORM featuring additions, corrections and inspirations from International Film Festival Rotterdam programmers.

Golden Tulip The Loneliest Planet

At the 31st Istanbul Film Festival 2012 the Golden Tulip International Competition Award was given to Julia Loktev's The Loneliest Planet, launched as film project at CineMart 2008. The award was presented to Loktev by famous Turkish filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
