Dansa als esperits   PF-2010

Documentary that poses fascinating questions about sickness and health. Made in the jungles of Cameroon, where Íscar records the life, choices and rituals of the inhabitants with discreet precision and beauty.

Dance to the Spirits sketches life in the jungle of Cameroon, the practices of the medicine man Mba Owona Pierre and his enchanted picture of the world. As the jungle shrinks, many medicines are disappearing (even those not yet discovered). The film evokes questions about health, medicine and rationality. It's not the unique locations or the fascinating rituals that make the film transcend the documentary genre, but the secure camera work and beautiful rhythm.
Ricardo Íscar acquired international praise for Tierra negra (2005), which was produced in the context of the Master en Documental de Creació, where Íscar worked as lecturer. As a cameraman, he cooperated on Joaquim Jordà’s Más allá del espejo. He did the camera work for Dance to the Spirts himself. Íscar trained at the Berlin Film and Television Academy.
