The first science fiction film ever (from 1902!) has been restored and can now be seen in colour. Screened together with The Extraordinary Voyage.
From the extensive oeuvre of the film pioneer Georges Méliès, A Trip to the Moon (1902) is by far the best-known work. Méliès based the story on two popular novels from his time, The First Men in the Moon (1901) by H.G. Wells aand Jules Verne's De la terre à la lune (1865). The recently restored film can now be seen in colour.
Good morning, I would like to suggest some corrections to the prensentation of A Trip to Moon by Georges Méliès on your web site. The original color version, lost for several decades, miraculously found in Spain, was finally meticulously restored in 2011 by three entities, experts in film restoration : two non profit entities - Groupama Gan Foundation for Cinema and Technicolor Foundation for Cinema - and a private collection, Lobster Films. This was one of the most complex and ambitious restoration ever made and it was premiere at Cannes in May 2011 for the Opening Ceremony of the festival. This restoration has just been awarded by the National Society of Film Critics. Second comment : The documentary "Voyage Extraordinaire" by Serge Bromberg, is followed by A Trip to the Moon by Georges Méliès. They are 2 separate films and should be presented this way. I believe Georges Méliès would certainly appreciate not to be hidden.... Could you please correct this in order to inform the audience. Many thanks Séverine Wemaere Managing Director - Technicolor Foundation for Cinema www.technicolorfilmfoundation.org www.fondation-groupama-gan.com
