Street Days   TG-2010

Sober Georgian drama about Checkie, a jobless and penniless junkie, is a reflection of a generation brought up in the soviet style who were around the age of twenty when the Soviet Union fell, and incapable of adapting to all of the socio-political and economical changes. They are now in their late thirties and early forties and are referred to as the lost generation.

Checkie is a jobless and penniless junkie with the reputation of being capable of doing just about anything for drugs. His life consists of the daily struggle to get money for another heroin shot. He owes everyone: friends, relatives, neighbours; people have started to avoid him. However, drug addiction is far from being his only problem: his family is also in dire straits. His ex-wife Nino needs money for their seven-year-old son’s tuition and is in despair, as her own business has bankrupted as well. In this already dramatic situation, corrupt cops show up. They want to take advantage of Checkie’s financial distress and intend to use him in their dirty game.
This sober family drama from Georgia goes much further than depicting a drug-addiction theme in that country, or in general. It is a reflection of a generation brought up in the soviet style, who were in their early twenties after the fall of the Soviet Union and are incapable of adapting to all of the socio-political and economic changes. They are now in their late thirties and early forties and are referred to as the lost generation. Levan Koguashvili’s bleak portrait of this street generation is dynamic, careful and emphatic, offering a story of a life filled with inner spiritual conflict.
