From 8th September, filmmaker Harmony Korine (Gummo, Trash Humpers) and indieWIRE are involved in Cinema Reloaded; the International Film Festival Rotterdam’s online crowd funding experiment for film projects. The goal is to produce three films that will première at the 40th IFFR in January 2011 and that will be funded by donations made to Cinema Reloaded. The three participating filmmakers are Harmony Korine, Ho Yuhang and Alexis Dos Santos.
Launched in December 2009, Cinema Reloaded is the world’s first online platform set up by a film festival for the financing of films by donation. The experiment was born of the belief that film festivals, with their pool of enthusiastic audiences and professional contacts, need to investigate and support this new way of making and distributing films. Changes in the film industry brought about by digitalisation and new online channels are offering filmmakers, film festivals and their audiences new ways of financing, making, distributing and watching films.
More about Korine and IndieWIRE:
Hello Harmony Korine!

We’re proud and honored to announce that the American writer/director Harmony Korine will be our new Cinema Reloaded director. Once hailed as ‘the future of American cinema’ by Werner Herzog, Korine has proven himself as one of the most controversial and independent filmmakers working today. His vast and varied body of work includes Kids, his directorial debut Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy, Ken Park and one of his most provocative films yet, Trash Humpers. His short film project is called God’s Joke. It already appears on the Cinema Reloaded website, so be sure to check it out and let him know what you think.
Hey IndieWIRE!
IndieWIRE will be devoting a permanent place on its homepage to Cinema Reloaded. Also, a new Cinema Reloaded blog by Korine, Ho and Dos Santos will be part of indieWIRE's popular blog section and coverage of Cinema Reloaded will also be included in the new Filmmakers Toolkit section. Stay tuned.
Pipilotti Rist, one of the original Cinema Reloaded filmmakers, has withdrawn her project owing to other commitments. Her Cinema Reloaded co-producers will be given the opportunity to re-allocate their finance to another of the projects.
