'Tigers in Moscow' brings Rotterdam winners to Cine Fantom   

April 1-5, Cine Fantom club and International Film Festival Rotterdam present ‘Tigers in Moscow' in the Russian capital: a choice of selections from IFFR’s 40th and earlier editions. The programme includes Tiger Award winning films, four films by Dutch filmmaker David Verbeek and a compilation of short films. ‘Tigers in Moscow’ also includes master classes by IFFR director Rutger Wolfson and by David Verbeek as well as interviews and Q&A's by IFFR festival programmer Ludmila Cvikova.

Cine Fantom, founded in 1995, is a respected and influential Moscow-based screening and film discussion venue as well as a filmmaking community. In 2006, the IFFR invited Cine Fantom to come to Rotterdam. This resulted in a successful and much-discussed showcase of ‘parallel cinema’ and of more recent works by filmmakers gathered round Cine Fantom.

The IFFR and Cine Fantom now join forces to bring a choice of Rotterdam award winners and selections to Moscow. Through the years, the IFFR has been the launching platform for several talented newcomers from Russia’s independent film scene such as Alexander Bashirov (The Iron Heel of Oligarchy, in competition 1999), Ilya Khrzhanovsky (4, Tiger Award winner 2005), Yelena & Nikolay Renard (Mama, in competition 2010) and recently Vladimir Kott (Gromozeka, in competition 2011).
