Wes ANDERSON (1969, USA) studied philosophy at the University of Texas. He has often worked on films with actor/writer Owen Wilson since the two met as students in the early 1990s. Rotterdam has shown Bottle Rocket (first as a short, then as a feature in 1996) and Rushmore in 1999. The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) were presented in competition at the Berlinale. Anderson's films have a distinctive style; he creates characters and tells stories of relationships with understated humour.
