Cameron Jamie Live

The Melvins and Keiji Haino perform

Keiji Haino

Backyard teenage wrestlers, spook houses, eating contests, and a winter visitation by mythical beasts are just some of the fringe rituals and themes Cameron Jamie has explored through his film work and art. The resulting work conflates investigative strategies, autobiography, mythologies, vernacular traditions, and urban folklore to examine contemporary life, our fascination with the outlandish,
and our need for escapism—what the artist calls ‘social theatre.’

Cameron Jamie expresses himself through a whole range of media; film, drawing, performance, photography, sculpture, etc. As the Artist in Focus, he will show his complete works on film and video. One of the highlights will be the live performances of soundtracks to accompany four of his films: Kranky Klaus, Spook House, BB and JO.

The legendary rock band The Melvins and the multi-instrumentalist of the Japanese avant-rock scene Keiji Haino will perform their own compositions to the films. They will also engage in an improvised concert together, mixing the films as well as their music. Cameron Jamie made a personal selection of a few films he has chosen to screen in Rotterdam. An odd array of American films which have fallen into the cracks of the film culture void. The films transcend beyond those typical definitions, genres, and labels which he believes need to be reconsidered.
