Roodkapje: Memory’s a Motherfucker

Is there any alternative for the escapist imitation of alternative cultures of the past? How can cultural resistance take shape in the present, without ignoring the past? Can history of militant art ever repeat itself? These are some of the questions that guest curator Peter Taylor wants to raise, by challenging three artists from different generations to come together. A politics of experience and inexperience:
Keith Rowe (1940) is a guitarist and painter. In the mid-1960s Rowe was a founding member of the free improvisation group AMM, and he is seen by many as a godfather of electroacoustic improvisation. The paintings exhibited in concern themselves with music, particularly the early years and development of the free improvisation group AMM.
Peter Todd’s (1955) presentation Basement Basement involves sounds, video, 16mm film, and performance. It’s a celebration of Ayton Basement (1976), ‘A space run by artists for contemporary work in video, film, and live performance.’
Luke Fowler (1978) has become known for his elaborate and poetic portrayals of past radical social experiments. Focusing on the anti-psychiatry movement and one of Kingsley Hall’s residents, The Nine Monads Of David Bell offers a disturbing investigation into his world.
