Mahamat-Saleh HAROUN (1960, Tsjaad) studeerde film in Parijs en journalistiek in Bordeaux. Zijn speelfilmdebuut Bye Bye Africa (1999) was de eerste lange film die volledig in Tsjaad werd gemaakt. Hij werd bekroond met verschillende internationale filmprijzen, net als Harouns tweede speelfilm Abouna (2002). Eerder maakte Haroun verschillende korte films en documentaires. Hij woont en werkt in Frankrijk.
