River Rites   SH-2012

Exquisite scene, originally shot in Surinam for his Tiger film Let Each One Go Where He May (2009), proves to be a powerful short film in its own right.

A trance dance water implosion, a newer line drawn between secular possession and religious phenomena. Filmed in one shot at a sacred site on the Upper Suriname River, the minor secrets of a Saramaccan animist are revealed every day as time itself is undone. Rites are the new trypps; embodiment is our eternal everything. (BR)
