Werner Herzog

Werner HERZOG, pseudonym for Werner H. Stipetic (1942, Germany) grew up in a remote mountain village in Bavaria and never saw any films, television or telephones as a child. He started travelling on foot from the age of 14. He made his first phone call at the age of 17. At school he worked nights as a welder in a steel factory to produce his first films. He started making short films in 1962. As constant traveller, Herzog has filmed throughout the world, eagerly using different landscapes. As well as directing more than forty fiction films and documentaries he writes prose and directs operas.
