Who's the newest arrival?

It's always a special event: the online film festival New Arrivals, a collaboration between NPS and the IFFR, is happening this afternoon - not on the computer screen, but on the big screen. All seven nominated shorts will be shown today in Lantaren/Venster.

Although the competition began in 2006 with mainly Dutch entries, this year's hopefuls offer a wide range of European cinema, from France and Germany to Denmark and Belgium.

After the films have been shown, the lights will go on and the winner's ceremony will begin. As well as the honour of having won there is also prize money of €1000. Jan Doense is the master of ceremonies and there's another good reason not to miss this unique event; each visitor gets a special download code with which they can access the films on their mobile phone.

Don't worry if you can't make it: all the films will be available to see on http:/bit.ly/8ZrIfl.

For anyone that would rather be on the podium than in the audience in 2011: the New Arrivals competition continues, so get your films in before the 1st March deadline!
