Interview: Gregg Smith - Underexposed

What was the starting point or the initial idea for this film?
The original idea was quite abstract: to make a dance-musical film, but without the music. After that various other elements accumulated with the writing of the script and developing the decors. The subject of the film was one of the last things to become clear in this case. The script was originally based on a housing problem encountered during an artist’s residency in Paris in the winter of 2007.

Can you share an important/funny/moving/surprising anecdote of the making-of this film with us?
The film was made thanks to a wonderful collaboration with friends in my hometown, Cape Town in South Africa. It was the most fun I've had in a long time.

What do you do when not making films?
I work in my studio on other projects as an artist and I teach in different art schools in France and Switzerland.

What would you like to say to your audience before seeing your film?
Thanks so much for being there!

What project(s) are you working on this year?
I am looking for funding and a co-producer for a new script I have written for a feature film, called The Crosswind.
