Interview: Mihai Grecu - Centipede Sun

What was the starting point or the initial idea for this film?
The starting point was my fascination for this kind of landscapes: minimal, lunar, mineral. Then I started to imagine living landscapes, I wanted to be able to control the meteorological phenomena and create tensions within the images only using nature's elements.

Can you share an important/funny/moving/surprising anecdote of the making-of this film with us?
While shooting in the Salar de Atacama (Salt Flats) we got to a place full of huge holes under the salt surface. It was like walking on a frozen lake: you never know when it might break. The incredibly hot dry air and strong sunlight and the infinite white surroundings made me feel like in a hallucinatory state. I lost any landmark of the known world.

What do you do when not making films?
I mainly read and watch films. Also I work as 3D dynamics animator.

What would you like to say to your audience before seeing your film?
I hope it will help them get out of this world.

Are you working on new projects?
I have about 3 new film ideas, but first is a multi-screen installation to complete the Centipede Sun- universe.
