What was the starting point or the initial idea for this film?
It's part of a large whole of mix media project named Chrysalides which includes paintings, drawings, piano compositions and films. All of them were inspired by, and created in The Fashion Plaza-building in Montreal. It's a part of this huge buildings complex created in de 70' for the textile industry. With the world economic transformation, this building lost progressively his first vocation and became something different... in transformation.
The trilogy is also called Chrysalides to traduce this metamorphosis phase. The movies were thought of as a kind of ‘dissection’ of a cocoon. It was my first experience working with film.
What do you do when not making films?
Continue some other projects in visual art.
What would you like to say to your audience before seeing your film?
To considerate this project like a first introduction of a ‘plasticien’ in the movie language.
Could you please tell us something about your future projects?
The futures filmic projects will be a part of a new ensemble about space-time. For example, I work actually in collaboration with a Swiss watchmaker to create a special watch to transform our conception of time. The corpus of this next exhibition will also include painting, sculpture, installation and prepared piano pieces. The next movies will be about light, deliquescence, and time travel. I'll shoot them next winter in the north of Quebec. This exhibition will be shown for a first time in Montreal, in the fall of 2011 and this show will travel in Europe and the USA. I'm now in residence at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin.
