Interview: Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni - Gaarud

What was the starting point or the initial idea for this film?
Once I had to stay in a shady lodge of a small town, it was a peculiar experience. I started thinking about the effect that space is creating in my mind. When I was sitting in the room, alone, I was thinking how it would feel if I were this room.

Can you share an important/funny/moving/surprising anecdote of the making-of this film with us?
At a point, after the film is made, one starts seeing; how funny the whole process was. It creates an abstract experience, which is funny, complex and meaningless at same time... But that’s what the fun is all about. And that’s why we make films. As we had very little footage, I used to pray to the God , that each track should go consistent and smooth.

What do you do when not making films?
I sneeze.

What would you like to say to your audience before seeing your film?
It's like a game, you enter this game and start playing it with me.. it might reveal some interesting secrets we know and yet we don’t.

What project(s) are you working on this year? Could you please tell us something about your future projects?
I am working with my friend, Girish, trying to find an idea, which can bring 10,000 millions of people to the cinema hall and yet it's something that we really want to make !
